The Kingsway Legion is currently undertaking new initiatives with the requirement for volunteers. There is a table placed adjacent to the Front Desk that is a Volunteer Table.
There will be 4 clipboards on this table:
JAM VOLUNTEERS (Assist during our Thursday Night Jam Sessions);
CANTEEN VOLUNTEERS (Assist on Fri & Sat Night with dances);
GENERAL VOLUNTEERS (Assist with events such as weddings, celebrations of life, banquets,etc); and
SPECIAL EVENTS” (Assist on Legion sponsored events such as the “Johnny Cash Tribute or the Neil Diamond Tribute,etc”).
Each clipboard will have future dates for events with brief job descriptors, start times and length of time help is required. Seven days before the scheduled event date, a respective canvasser will call our membership to volunteer.
We have three canvassers:
Chris Bunse has volunteered as the “General Volunteer Coordinator”;
Norma Yerex has volunteered as the “Canteen Volunteer Coordinator”; and
Marge Wyatt has volunteered as the “Special Events Coordinator”.
We understand that in the past we have mishandled the volunteer assignments, where we scheduled the volunteer, only to have them show up for work that didn’t exist, or having a volunteer work many hours.
The “General Events” assignments are typically three hours in duration, some may be scheduled an hour longer.
Volunteers working the “Special Events” will be given an opportunity to watch the show. “Special Events” typically run about 6 hours. Some jobs may be less in duration.
All volunteers will receive a Meal Voucher for every 10 hours of work.
Volunteers are reminded that if they cannot fulfill their shift, to please give us a least four (4) hours’ notice, so that we can get a replacement.
The Legion is Canada’s largest Veteran and community service organization. Our membership includes currently serving and retired Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Mounted Police members, as well as the mothers and fathers, wives and husbands, sons and daughters, and grandchildren of Veterans. Each of these individuals is impacted by the care our Veterans receive and the issues affecting them.
We also welcome into our membership those without military affiliation who support Canada’s Veterans. Legion members, whether they have served or not, help Veterans and their families, promote Remembrance, support Legion programs, and volunteer their time to provide essential services within their communities
